SoftRAID Trial FAQs

What happens after the 30 day trial period expires?

When your 30 day trial period has expired, most advanced features in SoftRAID or SoftRAID Lite will become disabled. You will still be able to use your SoftRAID volumes but you will not be able do things like test disks, create new volumes or have SoftRAID warn you of problems.

After your trial period has expired, SoftRAID or SoftRAID Lite will warn you that the trial period has expired each time you startup your Mac.

How will I know how long I have left in the trial period?

The SoftRAID Monitor will tell you how much time you have left. You can also run the SoftRAID or SoftRAID Lite application to see how many days are remaining in your trial period.

Can I convert my existing volumes to SoftRAID?

Of Course!You can convert your existing AppleRAID (0 and 1) and
Disk Utility volumes to SoftRAID format and all your files will
be preserved.

Note: SoftRAID and SoftRAID Lite do not support converting Apple Fusion volumes. We think these volumes are less reliable as they offer zero protection from disk failure. If a disk fails with a Fusion volume, you will lose any data you haven’t backed up separately.

After my trial expires, can I convert my disks back to Apple format?

Absolutely! We don’t think you will want to go back to using the AppleRAID driver since no one at Apple has done active development on it since 2009, but if you do, SoftRAID can convert your volumes back. One of the features of SoftRAID is to seamlessly allow you to convert your volumes back and forth between SoftRAID volumes and ones which use the AppleRAID driver.

What type of computer do I need to run SoftRAID or SoftRAID Lite?

SoftRAID will run on any Mac built after 2007 which is running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later (TRIM support for SSDs requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later).

Unlike many applications, SoftRAID has modest requirements for system memory and disk space, and uses so little processing power you won’t even notice it’s running—until it warns you of a failing disk!

What type of disks do SoftRAID and SoftRAID Lite work with?

You can use any disk which you attach directly to your Mac. This includes:

Thunderbolt disks
Internal and external SATA disks
SSDs (Solid State Disks)
Fibre Channel and SAS disks
USB 2 and USB 3 disks
FireWire disks
USB flash drives (yes, even those!)
